Why Moms Never Stop Mothering

Moms always mother their children, no matter how young or old they may be.  Even when you’re in your late 30s or 40s, your mom is still going to be there mothering you.  Mom wants your life to be perfect, and while that isn’t always possible, the fact that she never stops mothering you is amazing.

Moms never stop mothering because they always see their children as young kids.  They’re the ones who helped us get to sleep when there were boogeymen under the bed or helped us up and doctored us after a bicycle crash.  Later on in life, they were there to help us through our first break-up, practice for our driving test, and make decisions about our future.  While we might not have always appreciated what mom was doing, she was always doing it out of love.

If you’re a mom, you know how hard it can be to mother a teen.  The arguments that happen between a mom and her teenage children come from the fact that she still mothers them.  This is where moms have to learn to adapt their mothering style.  They have to change again when their teen becomes an adult.  Once mom learns how to mother a their grown children in a way that’s different from when they were young but it still satisfying, she will have truly learned how to be a great mother.

Your mom will never stop mothering you, but that’s a good thing.  This Mother’s Day, be sure to send her a lovely bouquet of her favorite flowers to show her how much you love and appreciate this.  We have many different options and ideas, and you’re sure to find one your mom would love.  Get in your order for Mother’s Day flowers Mount Morris, MI, today!

How to Have a Fun Spring

Spring has officially begun!  Flowers are blooming, there’s green grass everywhere, there are happy chirping birds in the air…doesn’t it feel great after a long, cold winter?  Everyone is ready to get out of the house and have some fun!  What type of fun events will you and your family be participating in this spring?  If you don’t have any ideas yet, here are just a few ways of having a fun spring.

Enjoy the weather by eating your lunch outside, sitting outside and reading a book, or exercising outside.  You can jog or ride your bike instead of using a treadmill or stationary bike at the gym.  If you have a laptop, you might even be able to do some work outdoors.  Think about how much more creative you’ll be if you’re writing or drawing outside.

This is also a good time to get your kids outside and active.  Take them to the park or a playground and let them run around for a while.  Some communities have even installed sprayground, which are like small waterparks where kids can play with sprinklers and water guns.  These are really fun places when it’s hot, but they can be fun in the spring, too.  If you have a dog, take him to a local dog park and let him get some exercise as well.

How about attending an outdoor concert?  There are many concerts, plays, fairs, and other outdoor events.  A lot of these events are even free, so you won’t have to spend a lot of money for your entertainment.

A lot of local amusement parks and other activity centers open during March.  Water parks, miniature golf courses, go kart tracks, and zoos all make great places to go in the spring.  The zoo is especially nice this time of year because you can enjoy it without feeling like you’re going to melt from the heat.

Don’t forget to get your flowerbeds and gardens ready.  If you love getting your hands dirty, now’s the time to plant some spring and summer flowers.  Give those hedges a trim, prune dead branches out of your trees, and generally give your yard a nice spring makeover!

While you’re at it, don’t forget to order some spring flowers in Mount Morris, MI.  We’ll be sure to deliver a gorgeous bouquet that will liven up any home!

St Pat’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day was established as a way to recognize Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Originally a religious holiday, it is now practiced on March 17th by many people throughout the world with food, drink and all things green.

Here’s a little of the history of St. Patrick’s Day. Though history saw celebrations of feasts in his honor, St. Patrick’s Day was not officially recognized until 1976. Saint Patrick has been credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland. There seem to be multiple origin stories for St. Patrick’s Day, but most sources agree that St. Patrick’s actual name was Maewyn Succat. They also agree that Maewyn was kidnapped and sold into slavery at age 16 and, to help him endure his enslavement, he turned to God.

Six years after his captivity began; St. Patrick escaped from slavery to France, where he became a priest, and then the second Bishop to Ireland. He spent the next 30 years establishing schools, churches, and monasteries across the country. He brought Christianity widespread acceptance amongst the pagan indigenous peoples.

It is thought that St. Patrick used a shamrock as a metaphor for the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit); showing how three individual units could be part of the same body. His parishioners began wearing shamrocks to his church services. Today, “the wearing of the green” on St. Patrick’s Day represents spring, shamrocks, and Ireland.
The date of St. Patrick’s death is still up for discussion. Some say that he died on March 17th, 461 AD. Another possibility is either March 8th or 9th – the days were added together to get March 17th. What is certain is that the holiday came to America in 1737, and was celebrated in Boston that year.

Valentine Flower Guide for the Romantically Challenged + Free Delivery on February 10, Offer Expires 2/6

You now officially have less than two weeks until Valentine’s Day.  Have you ordered your flowers yet?  If not, why not?  Picking out flowers doesn’t have to be an impossible chore that you put off.  In fact, it can be pretty easy if you know a little about the different types of flowers out there.

Deciding which flowers to get can seem an impossible task, but it really isn’t.  Here are some good options:

•    Roses
•    Tulips
•    Orchids
•    Dahlia
•    Hyacinth
•    Iris
•    Carnations
•    Chrysanthemums
•    Lilies
•    Tropical Flowers
•    Stargazer Lilies

Some flowers come in different colors, such as roses, tulips, orchids, and carnations.  What color do you go with?  Well, red is the traditional color of Valentine’s Day.  However, that doesn’t mean you have to go with red.  You could always go with her favorite color.  Another option is to get a mixture of colors.

Then you need to decide on a vase, if you want a vase.  Many florists have special vases just for Valentine’s Day, but you can always go with a simple glass vase.  If you want something a bit different, go with a cube vase.  If you don’t want a vase, just slip a rubber band around the stems and cover it with ribbon.  Don’t wrap the flowers in plastic wrap, it looks cheap.

Consider the presentation.  If you’re having the flowers delivered, be sure to give the florist a note or let them know what to write.  If you’re hand-delivering the flowers, you’ll still want to include a note, even if it just says Happy Valentine’s Day.

Are you ready to order flowers now?  We’re ready to help with all of your Valentine’s Day flowers in Mount Morris, MI.  If you’re interested in beating the crowd, we’re offering free delivery on February 10!  This offer expires on Feb. 6th, so hurry.  Just use discount code BLF when ordering.

When Times Are Tough

Image from sheknows.com

We’ve all gone through tough times in our lives, times when all seems lost and hopeless.  During those times, we’ve probably had at least one good friend or family member try to cheer us up and take away a little bit of the pain.  Most of us have been on that side of things, too—we see someone dear to us hurting and we just want to help.  Sometimes, that help takes the form of actually stepping in and doing something for the other person, but sometimes, all we can do is be there and show them we care.

Flowers, naturally, are a great way of showing how much we care.  As a florist, we know that the act of sending flowers can truly brighten up someone’s day.  Oh, we know flowers can’t fix everything, but they can let someone know you’re thinking of them.  Often, that’s enough to cheer someone up, even if it’s just for a little while.

The article below talks about dealing with tough times and ways friends can help each other.  Flowers are on the list, so we’re not completely biased here.  Giving someone flowers not only helps cheer them up, it gives you a sense of worth.  You’re being supportive and being a good friend.  Even very strong women sometimes have a hard time saying what they feel, but flowers can get that message across loud and clear.  Be a good friend.  When you know someone is in pain, do something from this list to help them out.  Even if you don’t send flowers, you’ll still be sending the message that you care.

Here’s the article:  How to Support a Friend

Don’t forget to send flowers in Mount Morris MI when your friends need a pick-me-up!

Once your Christmas tree, decorations and ornaments are carefully packed away, rooms sometimes feel empty. Cure those winter blues by filling your home with living, thriving green plants. Their presence helps create an enjoyable, comfortable and healthy environment. Not only do many common houseplants make indoor spaces more attractive, but they also help purify the air, according to a study by NASA and the Associated Landscape Contractors of America

Caring and tending plants can be therapeutic. Make nurturing Mother Nature’s creations a family affair. Teaching children how to care for plants and helping them understand the importance of plants is a rewarding experience as a parent. And if you’re returning to work after Christmas break, be sure to bring a beautiful green plant to brighten up the dull gray office walls. It’s good for business. Texas A&M University research demonstrates that idea generation, creative performance and problem solving skills improve substantially in workplace environments that include flowers and plants.

Not sure which plant to choose? Here are five houseplants that are easy to care for, will keep your air clean and are available here at our shop. So breathe easy, enjoy and let these beautiful plants help you chase away those winter blues.

Chinese Evergreen(Aglaonema hybrids)This adaptable plant originated inSoutheast Asia. It tolerates low light and dry air better than most houseplants. It doesn’t like cold air, so keep it warm and water regularly. Any good potting mix will do. Feed it from spring through summer, monthly with a balanced fertilizer diluted by half. “Silver Queen” is a popular compact variety.

Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum) Known for its hardy nature, the peace lily features lovely white flowers. It is part of the philodendron family that originated in Central America and the northern part ofSouth Americaand was domesticated by the Victorians in the mid- to late 1800s. Keep the plant moist, and out of direct sun and away from drafts. It enjoys high humidity, so mist often.  It droops when dry, and after you water it, it bounces back nicely.

Golden Pothos (Epipiremnum aureum)

Also known as the Devil’s Ivy, golden pothos is native to theSolomon Islands. This easy to grow and care for plant is an excellent choice for a beginner. It likes low to bright light and moist soil. Don’t allow it to sit in water so discard any drainage. Feed it 20-20-20 Plant Food monthly. It is a gorgeous vining plant with heart-shaped leaves variegated in green and yellow and grows fast and up to 10 feet or more.

Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum)

Originated from the South Pacific andSouth Africa, the spider plant prefers low to moderate light, not direct light. It requires light watering; so let it dry out before watering again. It doesn’t like hard water. Its leaves can be variegated green and white, or just green. Enjoy it as a hanging basket or as a potted plant, and since it is easy to propagate, you can make plants for others.

Snake Plant (Sansevieria trifasciata)

Also known as Mother-in-Law’s Tongue, the snake plant is native to tropicalAfricaand features stiff, upright leaves that grow up to four feet. These are the toughest of all houseplants. They can survive and thrive in any household conditions from bright to dark, although they prefer warm and bright. Totally over watering or never watering will be the only ways to kill them. This plant is a rapid grower and can break a pot with its roots.
